Why so much of this catalogue is panoramic

Australian country tends to run left to right. Floodplain, coastline, ridgeline and salt lake all resolve horizontally, and a conventional frame cuts them off. The panoramic format follows the landscape instead of cropping it, which is why three quarters of the catalogue is made this way.

Where a panoramic print goes

Above a sofa, above a bedhead, along a hallway, or on the single long wall most rooms have exactly one of. It is the shape that solves a wall nothing else fits.

The widest country

Olgas Sunrise, NT, Full Moon, Bungle Bungles, WA, Outback Australia and Desert Dreaming carry open distance and hold the largest sizes without falling apart.

Water on the long side

Bell Gorge Falls, Kimberley, WA, Ancient Land, Geikie Gorge, WA and Fitzroy River, Geikie Gorge, WA use the width for the rock wall rather than the water.

Coastline

Bondi Beach, NSW, Avoca Beach, NSW, Skillion Sunrise, Terrigal and Barrenjoey Sunrise, NSW are the images where the horizon does the work.

Sizes

Panoramic runs the full ladder from 18 inch to 100 inch. Beyond that, the mega pan range goes wider again.

What is a panograph?

It is Ken Duncan's own term for his panoramic format, and he holds the trademark on it. The word is specific to this work, which is why you will not find it used elsewhere.

How wide is a panoramic print?

Sizes are quoted on the long edge and run 18, 20, 24, 30, 37, 40, 50, 60, 75 and 100 inch. Not every photograph is offered at every size; the set for each is listed on its own print page.

What is the difference between panoramic and mega pan?

Mega pan is the wider range again, made for walls where a standard panoramic still leaves space. There are twenty two mega pan photographs against seven hundred and fifty six panoramic.

Should I frame a large panoramic print?

At 40 inch and above, unframed is the usual recommendation. Unframed prints travel rolled with a cotton interleave in a cylinder, which handles the long dimension better than a rigid frame.
